The artist, Deborah D. Bump, is a self taught maker and craftswoman based out of Vermont. Learning basic woodworking in the late 1960’s, she continued honing her craft and finding her style which have become highly sought after and collectible pieces today. This Bear Box is part of a larger series of carved animal puzzles that often contain storage compartments within to hold jewelry or other small trinkets. This specific box is estimated to be from the early 70’s as she started including a date stamp around 1978 as well as adding side profile eyes which this example is lacking.
