The Door into Summer

Good day,

It is June and thus begins the countdown. The countdown to what you may ask? The countdown to the only thing this newsletter exists for. At the end of the month we will be embarking on a tour of the Western US to do what marketing teams of yore had been doing for centuries but has since seem to become lost knowledge.

We're talking about hitting the open road and engaging with the people – to see who, what, where, and why you might need more pleasant lighting to knit scarves with or garments to stuff your pockets with farmer's market produce.

We are by no means free of the contemporary approach to marketing either and admittedly focus a lot of time on the biggest strategy these days which is, of course, short form video content and social media at large.

The ability of a brand’s marketing budget to be the cost of a smartphone has not been lost on us and we strive to uphold the tradition of Gen-Zed and the youth. But we felt something was missing… something… personal… which is why we decided to embrace the avant-garde and interact with people IRL.

We will be hitting the streets, old fashioned fruits-in-a-pushcart style to spread the word of what BY J.WU is all about. June has begun, the countdown is ticking, and at the beginning of July we will open the gates to pre-orders for our lovely lamps and handsome garments – more info soon to come.

As part of our first offering to you, our fabulous subscriber, we have three lamps for home BY J.WU,  each of which is born from the previous. The pendant lamp is where it all begins – by using the circles of fabric cut out from the center we have the pattern for the next iteration which is the table lamp. The desk lamp is then cut out from the table lamp so in reality these lamps are like Japandi Matryoshka dolls. Minimum waste, maximum vibrations. It’s about putting in what you want to get out and we love love so we stocked our lamps full of it.

We also have a jacket and pants set sewn from tough American cotton canvas. This is a rare, truly domestic textile down to the cotton grown in Texas and we’re very excited to be featuring it in our first clothing.

The jacket features two chest pockets with a much needed pen-separator that then swoops down to two roomy hip pockets, at a level which rests the hands comfortably like a shelf. The lines of those pockets then guide the eye towards the back pouch, much like that of a kangaroo but less fuzzy and full of joeys. It’s our modern take on a hunter’s game pocket but instead of the small animals we’re envisioning room for beverages, $5 footlongs, books for performative reading, or whatever else one might need for a day’s outing.

The pants mimic that of its upper body counterpart in that the pockets are reflective of each other. As above, so below or shall we say as in front, so behind? Nice, deep front pockets lead to well proportioned back pockets that have a little side pocket as well, similar to a carpenter pocket. We like to use it as an extra holder since it lands squarely at arm’s length but its certainly capable of holding tools just like a real woodworker would.

The table lamp sample is back from our manufacturer and regazzi, it’s sweet. Using real wood legs and a solid metal base, this lamp feels solid and works wonderfully. We’re testing out some alternatives but think we landed on a very nice way to light the sides of couches, knick knacks on shelves, and even the bowl of your dog should you want Fido to stop slobbering his water all over the place and start learning how to aim.

We also love that these legs are first and foremost, optional! Should you feel this little buddy needs a snuggle you can hold it on your lap and give it a pet. It works both ways and allows you to choose where this lamp could live in your home.

There is lots in the works and we are sitting on our hands trying to keep from hastily crafting Reels for you. So please bear with us while we put on the finishing touches and we will have some great stuff for you as soon as we can.

Con amor,

J+J
